2020_05_16 – THE BOOK ZOOM GROUP COLLECTION

On Sat 16 May 2020, Ten Forty Matrix Dinner and Discussion became a book discussion per Zoom to give us all a break from Covid 19 Cabin Fever.  A dozen of us zoomed to discuss what we were reading, listening to and watching.   And we can do Zoom technology!

Food for thought:  Once Scifi:  now fantasy, magic realism, future worlds, dystopias. More?

The Books and Authors.

Val McDermid:  the Tony Hill and Carol Jordan series.  Detectives

Elizabeth Gilbert:  City of Girls.

Anne Enright:  Actress.

Dervla McTiernan:  The Ruin; The Scholar; and The Good Turn.  Detectives

Jacqueline Winspear:  The Maisie Dobbs series. Detectives WW1 and WW2 UK.

LA Larkin:  Devour. Detective, thriller, Arctic setting.

Amor Towles:  A Gentleman in Moscow. Classic about long period of isolation.

Hayley Katzen:  Untethered. New memoir by expatriate lesbian now in country NSW.

On earth we’re briefly gorgeous:  Ocean Vuong. A Viet USA son writes to his illiterate mother.

Mark Brandi:  The Rip; Wimmera.  Oz detective stories

Magda Szubansky:  Reckoning.  Brilliant memoir by our favourite lesbian actor.

Chris Hammer:  Silver; Scrublands.  Oz detective stories

Isobel Carmody:  the Oberneucyn series. Fantasy.  Author also writes for young adults.

Natalie Conyer:  Present tense. South African detective story set in modern times.

I was so disappointed when I realised I’d missed the inaugural book group zoom meeting. Thanks for posting your list of interesting books. I hope to be more alert for your next Zoom meeting, and would love to discuss ow fantasy, magic realism, future worlds, dystopias, etc. Let’s also include utopias?
